Former England footballer Raheem Sterling has pleaded guilty to dangerous driving following a Lamborghini crash on a motorway in Hampshire, England.
The 31-year-old admitted the offence at Basingstoke Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, September 15, after appearing before the court over a single-vehicle collision involving his Lamborghini Urus on May 28.
Sterling also pleaded guilty to possessing six canisters of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation and failing to provide a specimen for analysis.
The crash occurred on the southbound M3 motorway near the Minley Interchange. According to Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary, no other vehicles were involved in the collision and no injuries were reported.
The court heard that Sterling had driven dangerously on several roads, including the M25, M3, A327 and Minley Road, before the crash.
Prosecutors presented dashcam footage showing the Lamborghini swerving between lanes and being driven erratically on the motorway.
Witnesses had reported concerns about Sterling's driving before the vehicle eventually crashed.
According to prosecutors, witnesses also reported seeing the former England international inhaling nitrous oxide from a balloon while driving.
The substance, commonly known as laughing gas, is a Class C drug in the United Kingdom when possessed for wrongful inhalation.
Sterling was subsequently arrested and taken to a police investigation centre, where he failed to provide a specimen for analysis.
The court was told that the dangerous-driving offence falls within the most serious category under the relevant sentencing guidelines.
Sterling's lawyer, Jason Bartfeld, indicated that there were personal circumstances that could be considered as mitigation.
However, the court did not impose a final sentence at Tuesday's hearing.
Judge Kirsty Allman adjourned the case for a pre-sentence report. Sterling was disqualified from driving and released on unconditional bail.
He is due to return to court on November 25 for sentencing.
Sterling remains one of the most recognisable English footballers of his generation.
He represented England 82 times and scored 20 international goals. He also played for several of England's biggest clubs, including Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal.
During his time at Manchester City, Sterling won four Premier League titles, five League Cups and the FA Cup.
After leaving Chelsea, he spent the 2024-25 season on loan at Arsenal before joining Dutch club Feyenoord on a short-term deal in February 2026.
He is currently without a club following the end of that spell.
The court case represents a significant off-field development for the former England international, who will now await sentencing later this year.
